Welcome in! I invite you to come down the fascinating rabbit hole I’ve been exploring today ❤️:

Among homeopathic remedies, Natrum Muriaticum (Nat mur) and Aurum Metallicum (Aurum met) are recognized for their complementary roles, particularly in the treatment of grief and deep-seated depression. I'm exploring the relationship between these two remedies, plus case studies and insights from some modern homeopathic greats.

Understanding Natrum Muriaticum

Natrum Muriaticum is primarily for people experiencing long-standing grief and emotional suppression. They exhibit a reserved nature (unless they drink alcohol, when they lose their reserve, sometimes like a cork popping!) They can find it difficult to express their sorrow and might appear stoic and self-reliant, preferring to grieve in private. They may only accept consolation from their very closest, trusted people.
Physical symptoms associated with Nat mur include headaches, digestive issues, and skin problems like eczema, often linked to suppressed emotions. They are very sensitive to the heat of the sun and tend to crave salt [perhaps they are self medicating, since Nat Mur IS salt?]

The Role of Nat Mur in Hiding Feelings

People in a Nat Mur state show a great sensitivity to humiliation because they have a heightened sensitivity to emotional pain. They have a deep-seated fear of rejection and abandonment and because they tend to suppress their feelings they experience a build up of unexpressed emotional pain from the prior traumas they are prone to experience. They have high standards for themselves and, like all of us, will have experienced criticism as a child. However, in a Nat mur child this can created a trauma due to their inability to process emotions for fear of the pain.

Understanding Aurum Metallicum

Aurum Metallicum, on the other hand, is known for its efficacy in treating profound depression, especially when accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness. People who do well with Aurum met hide their deep emotional pain behind a facade of strength and resilience. They may focus intensely on their responsibilities [like Nat Mur] and achievements to mask their inner despair. Their reputation is very important to them! Any failure can be experienced as 'falling from a height', because they have hidden their sense of worthlessness by building an awesome reputation [and status], through hard work. Physical manifestations can include heart conditions, high blood pressure, and bone pains, reflecting the emotional toll on their bodies.
This is an excruciatingly painful state in which to live, and the emotional state can spiral into a very dark place of self-hatred and shame.
People who need aurum often come for physical problems and their mental emotional state is thankfully seen by the homeopath they are consulting with.

The Role of Aurum Metallicum in Hiding Feelings

Aurum met people often present a facade of strength while concealing deep emotional pain and feelings of failure. This tendency to hide feelings is a key characteristic of Aurum met. Such individuals might appear stoic and dutiful, masking their inner despair and self-reproach. This emotional suppression can lead to severe depression and even suicidal ideation if not properly addressed.

Case Studies: Sequential and Complementary Use

1. Sequential Use in Treating Grief and Depression

Dr. Rajan Sankaran writes about a case of a 35-year-old woman experienced deep grief after her mother's death: Initially treated with Nat mur, she showed signs of improvement in her outward symptoms of grief. However, she continued to suffer from deep sadness and feelings of worthlessness. Introducing Aur met at this stage addressed her persistent depression and restored her sense of self-worth. This case highlights how Nat mur can initially help release emotional blockages, allowing Aurum met to tackle deeper emotional issues subsequently.

2. Complementary Use in Chronic Depression

In "Homeopathic Psychology" by Philip M. Bailey, a patient with chronic depression and suicidal thoughts was treated using both remedies. Initially, Nat mur addressed the patient's emotional suppression and unresolved grief. As these symptoms improved, Aurum met was prescribed to treat the underlying depression and feelings of inadequacy. This combined approach led to significant overall improvement, demonstrating the synergy between Nat mur and Aurum met.

3. Addressing Emotional Sensitivity and Resilience

A case reported in the "Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy" involved a young man sensitive to criticism and failure, indicating Aurum met. Initially, Nat mur was given to address his tendency to bottle up emotions and his prolonged grief history. After initial improvement, Aurum met was introduced to heal his deeper emotional wounds related to his hidden feelings of inadequacy. This comprehensive treatment process showcased the effectiveness of using these remedies together.

Personality and The Phases: Jan Scholten

Yesterday, on a long train journey, I was finally exploring the work of Jan Scholten. His work is complex and extraordinary! Worth dipping into. He speaks a lot about the 'personalities' we develop and this seems particularly to be true where we see the sickness that develops in the personalities of Nat Mur and Aur met.

If you know his work, I wonder if you would agree that Nat Mur sits around phase 4-5 of the development of a personality [ ] and Aur met sits more at phase 7, shadow?

That's for another post! A parallel rabbit hole.

Conclusion

The complementary nature of Natrum Muriaticum and Aurum Metallicum is well-recognized in homeopathy. Nat mur is effective in addressing unresolved grief and emotional suppression, while Aurum met is crucial for treating deeper depression and hidden feelings of inadequacy. Through careful, sequential, or complementary use, these remedies can provide a holistic approach to emotional healing, addressing both surface emotions and profound psychological issues. This can be a life saving process.
